心の余裕を持ちながら思考したい／Making Space to Think
最近、少しずつ本を読む時間を取るようにしている。そっと寄り添ってくれる本は、心の居場所をつくってくれる。
Recently, I’ve been trying to make time to read, little by little. Books that quietly sit beside me create a kind of refuge for my mind.
特に政治的・社会的なテーマが含まれる小説は、伝えたいメッセージの周りにストーリーという厚い文脈があるから、自分のペースで思考を深めることができる。本を通して、心に余裕を持ちながら考えたい。そんな思いで、本を読む時間を取るようにしている。
In particular, novels that explore political or social themes often carry their message within the depth of a story. Because of that narrative context, I can deepen my thinking at my own pace. Through books, I want to think with a sense of ease. With that in mind, I’ve been making space to read.
長いこと「もっと本を読みたい」と思っていたけれど、なかなか取り組めずにいました。最近、徐々に自分が好きな本と出会えるようになってきたので、誰かの参考になればと思い、記録を残すことにします。書いておかないと何を読んだか忘れてしまうから、自分用の備忘録でもあります。
For a long time, I kept telling myself that I wanted to read more, but I struggled to make it a habit. Lately, I’ve gradually started to come across books that truly resonate with me, so I decided to keep a record here in case it might be helpful to someone. And to be honest, it’s also a personal memo, as I tend to forget what I’ve read if I don’t write it down.
最近読んだものから順に並べています。必ずしも政治的・社会的なテーマが含まれる小説ではないかもしれないけれど、何かの参考になれば幸いです。
I’ve listed them in order from the most recently read. They may not all explore political or social themes, but I hope they might be of some interest.
日本語の本を読むことが多いけれど、英語の本を読むこともあります。いずれの場合も、日本語と英語で書いています。
I tend to read more books in Japanese, though I also read in English. In either case, I write about them in both Japanese and English.
最近読んだ本たち／Books I’ve Read Recently
朝井リョウ「生殖記」／Seishokuki by Ryo Asai
本のあらすじ：家電メーカーの総務部に勤務する尚成という主人公の話。本の構成が斬新で、主人公の主観的なストーリーと、主人公を取り巻く社会の状況を客観視した文章が交互に展開される。成長や生産を基盤とする資本主義社会のなかで、クィアとしてどのように生きるのか、自分の幸せを模索する物語。
Synopsis: This is the story of Shosei, who works in the General Affairs Department of an electronics manufacturer. The novel has an innovative structure, alternating between the protagonist’s subjective narrative and passages that observe, from a more detached perspective, the social conditions surrounding him. Set within a capitalist society built on growth and productivity, it explores how one might live as a queer person while searching for a sense of personal happiness. As of February 2026, the book is only available in Japanese.
